Stuart Rosh & The Geniuses – Black Cherries (2007)
Opnieuw hebben we diverse muziekstijlen in de blender gedaan. Dit keer kwam Stuart Rosh uit Milwaukee eruit met een nummer dat qua stijl uit de jaren ’50 of ’60 had kunnen komen. Is die saxofoon geleend van The Beach Boys of kennen we hem nog van Earl Bostic?

Flashback Lieveling
Charles Aznavour – J’ai vu Paris (1978)
Charles Aznavour (83) heet eigenlijk Shahnour Aznavourian. In de jaren ’40 en ’50 schreef hij liedjes voor Edith Piaf en Juliette Greco. In de jaren ’60 brak hij zelf door. In de Lage Landen had hij acht hits.
J’ai vu Paris drong niet door tot de hitparade. Misschien wel omdat het in 1978 werd uitgebracht in de koude februarimaand en niet aan het einde van de Tour de France, als de renners traditioneel Parijs binnenrijden.
Dit jaar zien minder wielrenners Parijs dan oorspronkelijk de bedoeling was (‘Dope sucks’, zong Herman Brood al). Moge Mi Amigo’s Flashback Lieveling hen tot troost dienen…

Ze komen uit Detroit, maar het is geen Motownsoul. Blanche met I’m Sure Of It doet denken aan Lee Hazlewood & Nancy Sinatra. Het liedje komt van het zojuist verschenen album Little Amber Bottles.

Zebda – Tomber La Chemise (1998)

Een vrolijk vakantieliedje over stadsjongens die even niet meer hoeven te werken en aan het fuiven slaan. Het zevenkoppige Zebda (een wonderlijke combinatie van rock, raï, reggae en funk) ging in 2003 uit elkaar, na 17 jaar samenwerking. Zebda is een arabisch woord. Het betekent boter.

Artiesten tegen terrorisme – Yeh Hum Naheem (2007)
De populairste popartiesten van Pakistan hebben de handen ineengeslagen tegen het terrorisme. ,,Dit zijn wij niet”, zingen ze, naar aanleiding van de autobommen en andere jihad-activiteiten. In februari kwam het liedje uit in Pakistan en het stond al snel op één. Yeh Hum Naheem, zingen kinderen op straat. En het nationale cricketteam, toen ze verloren van Ierland…
Yeh Hum Naheem is een waardige opvolger voor John Lennons Give Peace A Chance.
